HYLA LAXKIDZ is a  special program to introduce the sport of lacrosse to children not yet old enough for HYLA's regular league, which starts with second graders. It is the only one of its kind.  Children as young as 4 and as old as in the first grade [6-7]are eligible to participate.  Boys and girls are taught together in a fun format designed to teach basic lacrosse skills such as throwing, catching, cradling and scooping.  Laxkidz is totally non-contact.  All participants will use the smaller fiddlestick-type crosse and soft balls.  Cost per participant will be only $25 and each will receive a LAXKIDZ t shirt.  Those who complete the program to conclusion will receive a certificate.  SIGNUP FOR LAXKIDS WILL BE DURING HYLA'S REGULAR SIGNUPS AS LISTED ON THE SCHEDULE.  More specific guidelines for the program are below:

1.  Participants may be as young as 4 and as old as in the first grade [6-7].  The program is for both boys and girls.

2.  Laxkidz sessions will be held on each of the 6 regular HYLA gameday Sundays as listed on the schedule, weather permitting [see below], with a seventh and final session on Fun Day. Sessions will start promptly at 12:00 noon,   All sessions will be held on the at the Memorial Field Complex.  Participation levels and scheduled games determine which field(s) will be used.

3.  Players will use the smaller type of stick [crosse] commonly known as a "fiddlestick".  Only the specific HYLA approved stick can be used.  Players with their own approved stick [no regulation size sticks] in good condition may use it, or can use a HYLA stick distributed before and collected after each session.  Sticks will be available for purchase at signups.  Soft balls will be used.  There will be no other player equipment needed.

4.  There will be no Laxkidz sessions when  the air temperature is below 40 degrees, the wind chill temperature is below 35 degrees, adverse field conditions exist, or if there is sufficient precipitation, in any form, at HYLA's exclusive determination, to warrant cancellation.    In the event of threatening severe weather such as heavy rain or lightning, during a session, it will be concluded.  Laxkidz sessions that are cancelled or end due to weather will not be made up.  Children should be dressed appropriately for outside weather activity on colder days.  A parent or guardian must remain during the clinic so that children can be picked up promptly at its conclusion, as games are scheduled to start immediately after the Laxkidz session.  HYLA cannot assume responsibility for unattended children.

5.  All sessions shall be boys and girls combined, with no form of contact or checking permitted.  There will be no goalies.

6.  Sessions will generally consist of instruction on the basic lacrosse skills common to both the boys and girls games along with drills or instructional games, commencing after a short warm up period.  Sessions will be 45 minutes in duration.

7.  Should it come to the point when instructors conclude it would be instructional and fun, short lacrosse games may be played, with teams organized by the instructors and under rules set by HYLA.  Goals will be open [no goalies]. There will be no timekeeping and score will not be kept.

8.  Though not involved in the Mudsock tournament, Laxkidz participants and families are welcome and encouraged to participate in HYLA's end of season Fun Day celebration.

9.  These guidelines and the Laxkidz program are subject to revision at any time, as HYLA exclusively determines.
